Chances Are, Johnny Mathis Will Show Up

The Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters held their regular monthly luncheon last Friday, February 9, and the honoree was veteran TV actress and producer Donna Mills, best known for her long-running role as the villainous Abby Cunningham on the prime-time soap opera Knots Landing and for her role as Tobie Williams, the girlfriend of Clint Eastwood‘s DJ character in the 1971 cult film Play Misty for Me.

The most heartwarming moment of the event occurred when two-time Grammy-award winning jazz vocalist Diane Schuur was surprised and overwhelmed when her idol, the legendary Johnny Mathis, walked into the room to meet her and sit next to her at lunch. The whole thing was arranged by beloved radio personality “Shotgun Tom” Kelly and, according to alert eyewitnesses, the encounter was about as emotional as Jerry Lewis ending an MDA Telethon! Luckily, someone was alert enough to capture this special moment on video for you. [Special thanks to Art Vuolo!]
