A Pair Of Magical Moments
• Beasley AC WMGQ (Magic 98.3)/New Brunswick, NJ introduces Mike McGinn as its new afternoon personality. McGinn most recently did weekends on WBMP/New York — the now former CBS Radio Top 40 92.3 AMP Radio.
“I’m really excited to have Mike on the air and make Magic 98.3 his home,” said Magic PD/midday talent Debbie Mazella. “He’s got the energy we are looking for in afternoon drive. Take a listen and you’ll hear what I mean!” McGinn said, “This has been a crazy journey and I’m only getting started. I’m ready to begin the next chapter of my career with my new family at Magic 98.3.” McGinn succeeds John Lisk, who retired in July.
• Change also is in the air (and on the air) at Mid-West Family AC WMGN (Magic 98)/Madison, WI, as it was announced that afternoon driver Sara Freeman is stepping away from radio fulltime at the end of the year to join her husband’s real estate business. The good news — she’s keeping one foot in radio and will continue to do weekends. Freeman (pictured) started at Magic as the overnight jock back in 1986. After stints at other stations, she returned to do afternoons in August 2013.
Magic 98 has also hired Jillene Khan from middays at Scripps Country WKTI/Milwaukee. Khan will temporarily cover noon-3pm, succeeding Raina Bartell, who is moving to Cleveland. At the end of the year, Khan will slide into afternoons when Freeman vacates the shift and Julie Jacobs will rejoin Magic 98 to do middays. Jacobs is currently doing weekends at Bliss Communications’ Country WJVL in nearby Janesville-Madison.
