Zakk’s Bike’s Big Adventure
• Here is a true-life story that closely mirrors the premise of Pee Wee’s Big Adventure — a man’s most prized possession — his bike — is stolen, and an adventure ensues. This time, the bike in question — a beautiful Harley-Davidson Fatboy — belongs to our buddy Zakk, who does afternoon drive on Cumulus Media’s KSAN (107.7 The Bone)/San Francisco. And unlike Pee Wee, Zakk didn’t have to embark on a cross-country adventure (including a stop to check “the basement of The Alamo”) to find his missing bike, relying instead on the power of radio — and social media.
As Zakk relates to RAMP, “On Valentine’s Day my Harley was stolen from our rented and gated parking lot. I didn’t notice it was missing until after my afternoon drive shift. I went back to the station and had our engineer Andrew Stern check the surveillance video, which showed a man entering the lot at 10:37am, cracking the lock and stealing the motorcycle.”
A heartbroken Zakk decided use his very public platform and take the fight to the people — he shared the surveillance photos on his Twitter account, as did KSAN morning duo Lamont and Tonelli and other staff members. Listeners also got involved and shared the photos on their social media platforms. Lamont and Tonelli also shared the story on-air last Thursday morning.
By Thursday afternoon the SFPD found Zakk’s beloved Harley in the city’s Mission District and had it back to him that same evening! But before they delivered the bike, the officers posed for this awesome celebratory photo. An ecstatic Zakk exclaimed, “This is a tribute to the power of radio, the reach of KSAN and L&T, and also the to our listeners and the hardworking men and women of the SFPD!”
