Roxanne Steele: Free Agent

RAMP has confirmed Roxanne Steele‘s departure from the midday post at Entercom Country WYCD/Detroit. Thursday, June 14 was her last day on the station, according to a lengthy blog post on her website, roxannesteele.com, in which she says she left for vacation that day and was not invited back.

Ms. Steele was born and raised in Los Angeles and landed her first on-air job at the age of 19. After stints in Washington, Texas and Arizona, she notably spent 12 years with CBS Radio Chicago, rising to afternoons on B96,and later, afternoons on sister WCFS (Fresh 105.9), until 2010, when she relocated to Detroit. After two years of part-time on Cumulus Hot AC WDVD, Steele was hired to do middays on CBS Radio (now Entercom) Top 40 WDZH (98-7 AMP Radio). She left AMP in April 2015 and started working at WYCD in November 2015, moving into middays two months later. She was a 2018 nominee for “On-Air Personality, Major Market” at the 53rd ACM Awards.

In a separate blog post, Steele said, “I’m so thankful to [SVP/Market Manager] Debbie Kenyon and [VP of Programming] Tim Roberts for taking a chance on me and bringing me on board at WYCD. My new radio journey in country was honestly the best three years of my life! I had an absolute blast and now I’m addicted to country! I learned so much from the talented staff, including the late Linda Lee, who in the beginning was a huge asset to my on-air approach in country. I will treasure my time at WYCD and I look forward to my next radio adventure!”

Steele says she would prefer to remain in the Detroit area and can be reached for meaningful conversations at onairroxanne@gmail.com.

• Meanwhile, Tim Roberts tells us Sarah Thomas is currently covering middays on WYCD until a replacement is named. The position is now posted on the Entercom Careers portal (Ref#: 30358).
