LeeAnn & Wazz: ‘Hello, Cleveland!’
• iHeartMedia Country 99.5 WGAR/Cleveland unveiled its newly revamped morning show — LeeAnn and Wazz debuts at 5am on Monday, October 22, featuring existing co-host LeeAnn Sommers teaming up with Cleveland native Steve Wazz, who will also sport APD stripes. Wazz succeeds Brian Fowler, who recently exited after eight years.
The move is a homecoming for Wazz, who left his hometown in 2003 to start his radio career. He went on to crack the mic in Des Moines and Minneapolis, and was most recently APD/afternoon personality at iHeartMedia Top 40 WDCG (G105)/Raleigh.
“Bringing Wazz back home to Cleveland is an important step for WGAR as we develop a fresh new morning show for Clevelanders by Clevelanders,” said Keith Hotchkiss, President of iHeartMedia’s North Ohio Region. “We are thrilled to pair Wazz with LeeAnn Sommers, who is already a fan favorite on WGAR. Wazz is not only an engaging on-air talent, but he also possesses incredible talents off-air and in the social space.” Wazz exclaimed, “It’s great to be home! It’s crazy — my parents still live in the same house I grew up in, and to think I would have the opportunity to work at WGAR is incredible. I love Cleveland, I love Cleveland sports and I love everything this city stands for. The goal of this amazing radio journey was to eventually get back home and do radio in my hometown. I could not be more excited.”
Sommers has been with WGAR since October 2010. Her extensive Cleveland resume includes prior stints on WZJM, WENZ, WAKS and WMVX, as well as entertainment gigs on WEWS-TV andWJW-TV. She also spent five years in Denver at KIMN, KWLI, and KXKL.
