All For A Worthy Cause
• iHeartMedia Alternative WWDC (DC101)/Washington recently participated in an incredibly worthy cause linked to a subject that, tragically, has been hitting far too close to home for many of us — suicide prevention. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention sponsors “Out of the Darkness” community walks around the country, and the DC101 crew been working diligently to get the word out in DC.
Over 3,000 people, along with special guest Shinedown joined DC101 for a walk to help prevent suicide. As DC VP of Programming James Howard (left) relates to RAMP, “Shinedown walked with us as part of the Linkin Park ‘One More Light’ team and later performed on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.”
Howard continued, “The goal of the walk was to raise awareness and money for the AFSP to help all of us understand and seek help with mental illness. We want to insure that no one feels there is no way out. We created the Linkin Park ‘One More Light’ team last year after we lost Chester, and we have been fundraising and building awareness for the AFSP ever since.”
Howard added, “We helped raise almost $300,000 dollars for the AFSP. Now is not just time to talk about mental health — it’s time do something about it.”
