Kasper Wakes Up At KBOI/Boise
• We recently reported that Boise, ID broadcasting icon Paul J Schneider announced his retirement from Cumulus News-Talk KBOI-AM/Boise after a remarkable 51 years of service. We are pleased to report that the station has hired another Boise radio icon to fill Schneider’s sizeable shoes — say good morning to Mike Kasper, who has been named as KBOI’s new morning co-host, plugging in alongside Chris Walton weekdays from 5-10am, starting Monday, January 14.
The news of Kasper’s hire was considered so momentous, Schneider returned to 670 KBOI Wednesday morning to make the announcement voice his hearty endorsement. “I’m so excited and honored to be joining an iconic station like KBOI and I’m honored to be following in the footsteps of a legendary personality like Paul J Schneider,” said Kasper, who most recently spent 16 years across the street at Townsquare Media Hot AC KCIX (Mix 106) until May 29, 2018. “Captain” Mike Kasper started his Treasure Valley broadcasting career in 1989 hosting the morning show at KFXD (KF95). He later spent a decade across the street at Citadel’s KZMG (Magic 93.1) before joining KCIX in 2002.
Commenting on his move into the News-Talk format, Kasper said, “For the first time in my career, I’ll be able to talk with listeners to discuss current events, news, sports, politics and issues that affect our state and the Treasure Valley.”
Don Morin, GM of NewsTalk 670, said, KBOI was overwhelmed with the number of qualified applicants and talent wanting to be part of our team. Through hundreds of applications, Mike’s presence in the Treasure Valley is part of what made him one of the best candidates for the position. I look forward to 670 KBOI moving into a new era.” Kasper commented, “I look forward to joining and working with the already established team of Chris Walton and Rick Worthington. I look forward to being back on the radio to have some fun in the mornings again. I’m excited to join the faithful listeners of KBOI.”
