Onward, Upward For Mathew Myers
• The upward trajectory of Mathew Myers‘ career with Radio One continues — Myers, currently APD of Urban WCKX (Power 107.5/106.3), Urban AC WXMG (Magic 95.5) and Urban Gospel WJYD (Joy 107.1)/Columbus, OH has been rewarded with a transfer and a major upgrade to OM of the company’s Richmond group — Urban WCDX (iPower 92.1/104.1), Urban AC WKJS (Kiss 99.3/105.7), Gospel WPZZ (Praise 104.7) and Sports-Talk WXGI (ESPN Richmond). He will directly oversee the content and music programming for WCDX and WKJS, effective May 1. Myers succeeds “Yonni Rude” O’Donoghue, who in February transferred to Detroit as OM of Urban WGPR, Urban AC WDMK and Inspirational WPZR.
To give you some idea of how much Myers has learned and progressed in his nearly ten-year run with Radio One, VP of Programming Colby Colb recalls, “When I worked in Cleveland Mathew was the station receptionist. We taught him programming [Myers was later named MD of WZAK] and then promoted him to Columbus.”
Myers said, “In my almost 10 years with Radio One, I have been blessed to work with some extremely bright minds who have been more than willing to share their knowledge with me. I could not be more grateful to Colby Colb, Regional OM Bill Black, and so many others for their guidance along this journey, expressed Matt when asked about joining the Richmond team. With that said, words fail to express my thankfulness to RVP Marsha Landess and VP of Programming Hurricane Dave for their faith in me to lead the Richmond cluster. I’m extremely excited to work with both of them and the incredibly talented team there in the 8-0-4!”
• With Myers on the move to Richmond, Radio One will soon be posting the opening in Columbus. Stay tuned.
