Alpha Media Launches WE 102.9/Amarillo
• Just over a month ago we reported that Alpha Media had augmented its Amarillo, TX cluster with the $250,000 acquisition of Spanish Adult Hits KEYU (102.9 Mundo FM) from Gray Television.
On Thursday, Alpha Media made its formatic intentions known when it flipped KEYU to Rhythmic KVWE (WE 102.9), pointed directly into the living room of Cumulus Rhythmic rival KQIZ (93.1 The Beat). Phil Becker, Alpha Media EVP Of Content & Programming, commented, “Hip-Hop is the most consumed music in the world and one that our company is passionate about and believes in. The addition of WE 102.9 to our Amarillo cluster gives us the ability to offer our advertisers a new demographic and puts us in a great position to continue to be the market’s most-listened-to radio operators.”
The new WE 102.9 is under the command of newly named Operations Manager Keith Curry, who arrives bearing years of programming experience, including his most recent stint as APD of iHeartMedia’s WMIB (103.5 The Beat)/Miami. Curry previously programmed WDKS/Evansville, IN and WKFR/Kalamazoo, MI; other career stops include WDRQ/Detroit and WSNX/Muskegon, MI.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Alpha Media and am excited about offering a more compelling hip-hop option to the market,” Curry said. “Thank you to Phil Becker and Melissa Kibler for believing in me. WE are about to do big things.”
