MPR Names Curtis Dir./Programming
• After an ambitious intergalactic search, Minnesota Public Radio’s MPR News keeps it close to home and names Stephanie Curtis as Director of Programming. A veteran of the MPR newsroom, Curtis has served as Sr. Producer of Audience Development and Engagement since 2016.
“Steph holds a clear vision for what needs to come next in our programming in order to be relevant and engaging with our audiences,” said Nancy Cassutt, Executive Director of News and Programming at MPR. “She understands our newsroom and where we have the best opportunities to grow and better serve our listeners. Combined with her wealth of talents, this makes her a perfect fit for this role.”
Known to audiences as the “Movie Maven” from the weekly MPR News podcast Cube Critics, Curtis’ tenure with MPR spans more than 25 years and has included multiple responsibilities ranging from hosting and event production, to social media management and digital strategy. Curtis started out as an associate producer for MPR News, filling in on the production of Midmorning and All Things Considered before going on to be an associate producer at American RadioWorks (now known as APM Reports). She also was the host and co-producer of the financial program Sound Money.
Curtis was also a founding producer of The Current, MPR’s Triple A music service, and helped establish the public affairs series Policy and a Pint. Curtis also co-created and managed MPR News’ books initiative, The Thread, for five years. She holds a Bachelor of the Arts degree from Carleton College. [Photo credit: Caroline Yang]
