Cumulus Launches ‘Rockternative’ In KC
• Cumulus Alternative KCJK (X105.1)/Kansas City today introduced a new hybrid format combining the best of Alternative and Active Rock; thus, creating KC’s first “Rockternative” radio station, newly rebranded as 105.1 The X (Kansas City’s Rock. Alternative). The new sound reaches across both formats, featuring hits from Tool, Shinedown, The Black Keys, Disturbed, The White Stripes, Mötley Crüe, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, etc.
The personality line-up for 105.1 The X features the Premiere-syndicated Woody Show in morning drive, followed by Joel Weiss in middays and Kansas City native Cassiday Proctor driving you home from 3-7pm. Ms. Proctor (pictured) comes home from St. Louis, where she most recently did afternoons on Hubbard Radio Adult Hits WARH (106.5 The Arch). Her previous stops include mornings on KAMX (Mix 94.7)/Austin, WNKS (Kiss 95.1)/Charlotte (where she also hosted a daily television show), and WSTR (Star 94.1)/Atlanta.
Donna Baker, RVP/Market Manager of Cumulus Kansas City, said, “Kansas City’s Rock Alternative is exactly what Rock fans are asking for. With the perfect companion, our No. 1 Classic Rock station KCFX (101 The Fox), Cumulus Kansas City reaches the most listeners and provides our advertiser partners with unmatched radio and digital solutions that create results.” Mike O’Reilly, PD of KCJK, commented, “A new day has dawned for Rock radio in Kansas City… Let the next evolution of Rock/Alternative begin.”
Proctor said, “I’m thrilled beyond words to be joining the Cumulus family. My passion for radio began as a young child growing up in Kansas City. To get hired to work at 105.1 The X is a very full-circle moment that is not lost on me. Thank you to Donna Baker, Mike O’Reilly and Troy Hanson for their vision and for giving me the opportunity to shine in the Rock format.”
