Gillingham Ready For His Next Chapter
• Veteran broadcast executive Terry Gillingham, Regional VP/GM of Hawaii–based Pacific Media Group‘s Oahu and Kauai Radio Operations, announced his plans to retire at the end of February 2020, closing the book on a successful 48-year radio career. “Terry has done a fantastic job. His leadership and passion for the business and the people will be greatly missed,” said Chuck Bergson, Director, President and CEO of Pacific Media Group, Inc. “The good news is, Terry has helped position the station group well, so we are poised and ready to grow to the next level.”
Gillingham arrived in Hawaii in 2014 and presided over the significant growth of the company’s Oahu cluster — KDDB (102.7 Da Bomb), 94.7 KUMU, KQMQ (931 Da Pa’ina) and KPOI (ALT 105.9), as well as the stations on Kauai: KQNG (93.5 KONG Radio), KSRF (HI95), KSHK (Shaka 103) and KUAI-AM/FM (Kauai’s Country). “The teams here have done an amazing job of moving our stations forward,” said Gillingham. “I feel honored to have been a part of the growth and positive culture.”
Gillingham started in radio management in 1981 when he landed his first GM position at Buckley Broadcasting’s KWAV/Monterey, CA. He went on to become Buckley’s Regional VP for California, helping the company expand across the Central Valley. Since that time Gillingham has held a variety of positions including Owner/Operator, COO for a statewide network of stations, and multiple VP/GM stints. Prior to arriving in Hawaii in 2014, Gillingham spent 12 years in Knoxville, TN as VP/Market Manager for South Central Media.
Gillingham commented, “I’m very fortunate to have been able to work with so many dynamic and talented people over the years. As I wind down my radio career, I can honestly look back with pride and satisfaction at the various operations I’ve been able to contribute to.”
For Gillingham, retirement is a relative term — he and his wife will remain on Kauai where they have a home and operate a successful (and expanding) retail business, Hawaiian Artisans in Kapa’a. “If you’re ever on Kauai, come visit us!” he said. Gillingham will continue his responsibilities while Pacific Media Group conducts a search for his successor.
