Solk Greg 2013CBS Radio Chicago has appointed market vet Greg Solk as the new OM/PD of heritage Triple A WXRT and Classic Hits WJMK (104.3 K-Hits). Solk is a 30-year radio programming pro and a Chicagoland native who most recently plied his trade across the street for Hubbard Radio as SVP of Programming, overseeing seven markets, including Chicago, DC, Phoenix, Minneapolis-St. Paul, St. Louis and Cincinnati. He exited last May during a round of corporate restructuring. Solk began his radio career in 1977 as a 15-year-old intern at Chicago’s legendary WLUP (The Loop), and his lengthy radio resume includes programming stops at The Loop, WDRV (97.1 The Drive) and WTMX (101.9fm The Mix), as well as KFOG/San Francisco.

CBS Radio Chicago VP of Programming Todd Cavanah said, “Greg grew up listening to XRT as a teenager and spent decades programming against it. This is an unbelievable opportunity for us to have not only a true fan of XRT but also a strategic thinker to make XRT the No. 1 rock choice in Chicago. His deep knowledge of music’s past, present and future will keep XRT evolving forward by remembering the heritage of this unique Chicago brand. For K-Hits, Greg brings tremendous knowledge to the Classic Hits format and we welcome him as a partner on our programming team.”

Solk remarked, “I have been blessed in my career to work for some amazing stations in my hometown, but this opportunity is off the charts. Everyone knows there is no station or staff anywhere in the world that can rival the 45-year heritage of WXRT — ‘Chicago’s Finest Rock.’ I’m humbled to be a part of its brilliant legacy. To be asked to also take the reins of K-Hits makes this the most exciting move I can imagine. I can’t wait to join the great team of professionals at CBS Radio. I’m honored by the confidence Tim Pohlman, Todd Cavanah and Chris Oliviero have placed in me.”
