SCBA Pres. Callahan Joins Saga
• Thom Callahan, the President of the Southern California Broadcasters Association, announced he’s joining Michigan-based Saga Communications in the newly created position of Director of Business Development.
Callahan, who has served as President of the SCBA for the past seven years, commented, “I’m proud of the value we have created for Southern California radio and will miss so many of the great radio members we have. However, the opportunity to work with [Saga] President & CEO Ed Christian and the great Saga team was just too compelling. I wish the SCBA great success moving forward.” Prior to joining SCBA, Callahan was President of Callahan Communications. He previously served as Director of Sales for Radiate Media, and also served in senior management positions with The Associated Press, CBS Radio, Metro Networks and Anheuser-Busch.
It was concurrently announced that the SCBA Executive Board has named Board Chair Miles Sexton as Interim President of the organization, effective February 1, while they focus on their structure, mission and a permanent president going forward. “Thom has served the SCBA with distinction for the past seven years,” said Sexton, whose fulltime job is CFO & Chief Development Officer for Point Broadcasting LLC. Sexton added, “Thom has genuine passion for radio and we are thankful for his tireless work to promote the value of radio and the many audio and digital services offered by SCBA members.”
• In a related story, Saga recently announced that, after more than 33 years with the company, Marcia Lobaito is retiring as Senior Vice President and Director of Business Affairs, effective March 13, 2020. Ms. Lobaito will continue to serve as Corporate Secretary.
