Alpha Media Making Cuts
• UPDATED: In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and its ongoing fallout on advertising revenue, Alpha Media has taken painful steps similar to those of other media companies and announced temporary furloughs, the elimination of some positions, and a reduction of hours for certain employees. Prior to these actions, the members of Alpha’s executive leadership team proactively reduced their own compensation.
Alpha Media CEO Bob Proffitt explained, “Alpha Media continues to work through many difficult decisions to cope with the current challenges we all face brought about by COVID-19. We are positioning the Company to weather this challenge while trying to keep our valued team members safe and be poised to recover quickly once the crisis has passed.”
• One of those employees adversely affected is MoJoe Roberts, who exits his dual position of PD of Country KUPL (98.7 The Bull)/Portland, OR and corporate Country Format Captain.
Prior to his arrival in Portland in March 2016, Roberts spent a decade as PD of Cumulus Top 40 simulcast KHOP & KWIN/Modesto-Stockton, CA. Before taking command of KHOP in 2006, Roberts was APD/MD/night jock at then Citadel sister KATM/Modesto. His previous stops include KQFC/Boise, ID and KXDD/Yakima, WA. Roberts was upped to Alpha Media Country Format Captain in Feb. 2018.
Looking ahead, MoJoe can be contacted at 209-541-4829 or MoJoeRoberts@me.com.
• RAMP has learned that two thirds of the KUPL morning show — Tony Russell and Jake Byron have also exited. Their co-host Jenn Hays remains aboard and moves to middays as APD/MD Danny Dwyer slides into MoJoe’s former afternoon shift. Cassidy Quinn remains in nights.
• If you or someone you know has been similarly affected by these cutbacks, please email your information to Kevin@RAMP247.com.
