‘One World’ Event Raises $128 Million
• Saturday’s star-studded virtual concert event, One World: Together at Home raised an amazing $127.9 million for health care workers and coronavirus relief, according to Global Citizen.
The show, hosted by Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon & Jimmy Kimmel and steamed/broadcast on a wide variety of platforms, was organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Global Citizen, in collaboration with Lady Gaga, who performed twice during the two-hour livestream — she opened the show with a rendition of Charlie Chaplin‘s timeless classic, “Smile,” and helped close out the show as she joined Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli and John Legend in a four-part harmony version of “The Prayer.”
As reported by Variety, dozens of artists performed from home while sheltering in place during the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to Gaga, we were treated to performances by Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Billie Eilish & Finneas, Lizzo, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban (times 3!), Jennifer Hudson, Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello and many more.
Of that $127.9 million haul, $55.1 million will go to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and $72.8 million will benefit local and regional responders. Global Citizen launched the fund in response to the spreading coronavirus pandemic last month.
