Hip Hop Gets Real In Youngstown
• iHeartMedia Youngstown, OH used the impending Independence Day weekend to perform a format flip on WAKZ (95.9 Kiss FM), flushing Top 40 and converting the station to Urban as Real 95.9, “Youngstown’s REAL Hip Hop and R&B.”
“Top 40 has evolved and Real 95.9 is the only station you’ll hear everywhere in The Mahoning Valley, playing today’s biggest Hip Hop and R&B hit songs,” said Keith Kennedy, Market President and VP of Programming for iHeartMedia Youngstown.
To celebrate the launch, Real 95.9 is now rolling through 5,000 songs in a row, broadcasting the most popular Hip Hop and R&B songs uninterrupted. The station will also feature popular on-air personalities including Big Sue in middays, Papa Keith in afternoon drive and T-Roy from 7-midnight, and effective July 13, 2020, Real 95.9 will welcome the most-listened-to Hip Hop morning show in America, the Premiere-syndicated The Breakfast Club.
