O’Connell On The Loose

• “Radio Day,” be damned… RAMP has learned that John O’Connell has exited his dual PD position with Entercom Alternative WSFS (104.3 The Shark) and WKIS (Kiss Country 99)/Miami, as his position has been eliminated.

O’Connell is the original birth parent of The Shark, having launched the station exactly five years ago this week, breaking the Sports-Talk simulcast on WAXY-AM/FM and flipping the FM to The Shark.

Prior to joining Entercom, O’Connell worked for CBS Radio Tampa programming Country WQYK and Sports duo WHFS-FM (98.7 The Fan) and WHFS-AM (CBS Sports Radio 1010)/Tampa Bay until their sale to Beasley in early 2015, but he’s probably best known for his 18 years in West Palm Beach as OM/PD of WPBZ,WIRK and WEAT. O’Connell began his radio career in Boston at WXKS (Kiss 108).
