Remembering Jim Raimo
• This has been a brutal year for many reasons, and here is other one — Jim Raimo, the longtime PD of Entercom AC WMAS/Springfield, MA passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Sept. 17 after a battle with bile duct cancer. He was only 51 years old.
Raimo, a native of Waterbury, CT, had been a fixture at WMAS since 1995, and, as the station’s Facebook tribute read, in part, “Jim has been with the station for over 25 years and he’s helped raise over 4 million dollars locally for Baystate Children’s Hospital through our Radiothons. Jim wore many hats here at the station… you may have seen him at the front desk when you picked up a prize, heard him on the air over one weekend or perhaps he checked you in at registration during one of our many events over the years. Jim was always good for a laugh with his very wicked sense of humor and he will be missed.”
Raimo leaves behind his loving wife Jennifer, daughters Lucy and Nora, his mother, a sister and extended family. His obituary is posted online. A memorial service to honor Jim’s life will be held when it is safe to do so.
• To help Jim’s family deal with his medical and other expenses, a GoFundMe page has been set up with the goal of raising $50,000. Please visit the page when you get a moment and donate whatever you can. Thank you.
