Postmodern From Coast-To-Coast
• On the heels of Entercom’s recent realignment of its Alternative and Country formats, Postmodern, the Sunday morning Classic Alternative specialty show hosted by Scott Lowe on WNYL (ALT 92.3)/New York just experienced a serious jolt of brand extension when it was franchised across most of the company’s Alternative outlets, including The World Famous KROQ/Los Angeles, which is running a customized version, as is ALT 92.3.
Postmodern, which launched on ALT 92.3 last June, now also airs Sundays from 7-11am on KITS (ALT 105.3)/San Francisco, KVIL (ALT 104.3)/Dallas, WSFS (104.3 The Shark)/Miami, WHFS (HFS @ 104.9)/Baltimore, KNDD (107.7 The End)/Seattle, KNRK (94/7)/Portland, OR, KKDO (ALT 94.7)/Sacramento, WQMP (FM 101.9)/Orlando, KRBZ (ALT 96.5)/Kansas City, WRXL (ALT 102.1)/Richmond, VA and WLKK (ALT 107.7 & 104.7)/Buffalo, NY. The only Entercom Alternative outlet not currently airing Postmodern is KBZT (ALT 94.9)/San Diego, home of the late Steve West, where Bryan Schock hosts Steve West’s Legends of Alternative.
Lowe (pictured), explains that the genesis of Postmodern dates back to 1989, when he and Mel “Toxic” Taylor co-hosted the original version — Postmodern PST on WPST/Trenton, NJ. Mike Kaplan, who wears the multiple hats of SVP of ALT Programming and PD of ALT 92.3 and KROQ, told RAMP, “We’re lucky to have someone like Scott with his wealth of knowledge and passion for the roots of Alternative — bridging the gap between our formats past and future.”
