Mitchell Hits Half-Century Mark
• Results Radio Classic Hits KCCL (101.5 K-HITS)/Sacramento just wrapped up a gala four-day celebration in honor of morning man Joey Mitchell‘s 50th year in radio! The special presentation began Friday morning, Nov. 6 and concluded on Monday, Nov. 9. The plan to air a bunch of special vignettes and 50 years of radio stories, celebrity interviews, and VIP callers took on a life of its own as K-HITS and Joey received hundreds of voicemail well-wishes and an equal volume of texts, Facebook messages and congratulatory emails. Jim Cooper, Assemblyman for California’s 9th District personally presented Mitchell with an official resolution honoring him for 50 years of serving the state through his numerous philanthropic efforts.
K-HITS OM/PD Rico Garcia said, “Being on Joey’s team for the last 12+ years has been a blast! We were excited and honored to help him celebrate this major career milestone.”
Mitchell started his Sacramento radio journey at KPOP in 1975, and shortly after segued to KRAK Country, where he spent the next 20 years. In the mid-’90s Mitchell joined the former Cool 101.1, and later, Kool 101.9. Mitchell has been at K-Hits since its launch in early 2007.
Looking back on his career retrospective (much of which is posted online), Mitchell said, “I expected to be full of myself after a four-day tribute, but the reverse was true. Hearing so many listeners, friends, family members, co-workers and peers say that my show impacted their lives all of these years left tears in my eyes and a very real humility in my heart. I appreciate that I have been given this amazing opportunity for over 50 years.”
