Midwest Pros In Motion
• There’s a morning changing-of-the-guard coming at Cumulus Classic Hits WVBO/Appleton-Oshkosh, WI, as it was announced that Chuck Lakefield is moving up from middays to mornings, beginning March 20. No stranger to waking up ungodly early, Lakefield also did mornings on sister WNAM-AM, and he’s done morning shows in Duluth, MN, Lansing, MI and Terre Haute, IN. PD Steve Edwards said of Lakefield, “Chuck’s incredible on-air skills, local appeal and long list of success make him a perfect fit for WVBO mornings.”
Lakefield’s elevation comes on the heels of last week’s announcement that current WVBO morning guy Dan “Skip” Willis is retiring this month after more than 45 years in radio. Willis’ final show is Friday, March 17, before he heads to Florida for his new gig as fulltime grandpa. “So many great memories, so many wonderful people — I will miss it all!” said Willis. “Now it’s time to say so long to the headphones and mic and move on to a whole new chapter in my life.” Lakefield remarked, “Skip has been a great friend for a long time, and he deserves a fun, relaxing retirement with his family in Florida. I’ll miss working down the hall from him in the morning, cleaning up his computer messes, and sharing my show prep when his Radio Shack TRS-80 crashes! Best of luck, my friend.”
• We recently told you that Kaytie was preparing to leave her dual position as co-host of The 3rd String Morning Show and Promotions Coordinator at Mid-West Family Active Rock WQLZ/Springfield, IL for a new gig TBA… well, Kaytie’s destination has now been revealed — she’s headed to beautiful downtown Green Bay-Appleton-Oshkosh, WI, hired by Woodward Radio Group to do middays on Active Rock WZOR (Razor 94.7) and serve as Digital Coordinator for both Razor and Mainstream Rock sister 105.7 WAPL/Appleton.
“Kaytie will be a great addition to Razor’s lineup and the culture at Woodward Radio Group,” said Ryan “Elwood” Bjorn, Brand Manager of WAPL and WZOR. “She’s incredibly passionate about connecting with the audience and making a positive impact in the community.” Kaytie starts at the end of the month and will join a lineup that includes Cutter, Pete Burns, BallZach, the syndicated Free Beer and Hot Wings morning show and the syndicated HardDriveXL with Lou Brutus at night. Kaytie remarked, “I am beyond excited to work with Elwood, Cutter and the Razor team and can’t wait to see what we do together.”
