SummitMedia Resets Programming Team

SummitMedia, LLC announced its newly restructured programming leadership team, which includes the addition of veteran programmer Rick Thomas. “Our goal is to bring each Summit brand experience to life and innovate in the media space,” said CEO Carl Parmer. “While the past year disrupted radio as we knew it as well as experiencing the recent passing of programming legend Bill Tanner, we recognize the incredible opportunities before us for those who can deliver fresh ideas to the industry.”

Parmer taps Randy Chase (left) as the SummitMedia’s new EVP of Programming to lead the company’s strategic and programming charge. Chase joined SummitMedia in July 2020 as SVP of Programming after seven years with EMF. He now oversees a team of Brand and Content Leaders (BCL), who will work closely with local PDs, OMs and Market Managers to grow the brands they oversee.

John Olsen, Senior Vice President of Programming manages Summit’s Rock, Classic Rock and Alternative formats, along with special projects.

Maurice DeVoe, Operations Manager for the company’s Greenville, SC cluster, moves into the BCL role for the company’s Rhythmic Top 40, Hip Hop and R&B stations. DeVoe joined SummitMedia in March 2020 from iHeartMedia St. Louis. He previously spent 16 years with Cumulus, rising to Corporate PD over the company’s 39 Rhythmic and R&B stations.

New to the SummitMedia team is Rick Thomas (left) as the newly named BCL for SummitMedia’s Top 40, Hot AC and AC formats. He also assumes day-to-day programming for Top 40 WWST (Star 102.1)/Knoxville. Thomas was most recently VP of Programming for Max Media Denver, preceded by a stint as OM for Cox Media Group Tampa. His extensive programming portfolio also includes WBMP/New York, KRTH & KTWV/Los Angeles, KYLD/San Francisco, KSFM/Sacramento, XHRM/San Diego, plus three tours of duty at XHTZ/San Diego and a four-year run with Ohana Broadcasting Honolulu.

Chase said, “We have assembled a team with both incredible experience and a tremendous hunger to capitalize on the disruption in the media space and arrive first into the next normal. With this leadership team in place, I believe we will deliver highly engaging products for our consumers and set up every member of the SummitMedia team to perform at their full potential.”

• SummitMedia operates stations in nine markets, which feature Top 40, Hot AC, AC, Rhythmic, Hip Hop, R&B, Country, Sports, Talk, Rock, Classic Rock and Alternative.
