WLNK Unlinks, Flips To Mix
• We figured more changes were coming to WLNK/Charlotte under new owners Radio One — especially on the heels of the departure of syndicated morning fixtures Bob & Sheri, who left their flagship station Friday, April 30 after 29 years. On Friday, the company announced additional changes, starting with a station rebranding — after 25 years as 107.9 The Link, WLNK will henceforth be known as Mix 107.9.
That news was followed by the announcement of a revamped airstaff, starting with longtime afternoon duo Matt & Ramona moving to Bob & Sheri’s former morning drive shift, followed by Drew Parham in middays, replacing Holly Haze, who moves to nights. The Mix 107.9 afternoon drive shift is now the domain of Atlanta radio vet Madison James, who did middays at WSTR (Star 94) and afternoons at Cox Media Group AC WSB-FM (B98.5). And as a special bonus, every weekday you can count on three commercial-free 24-song sweeps throughout the day!
“As people head back to work and our lives return to some normalization, now is the perfect time to launch Mix 107.9,” said Terry Foxx, Brand Manager of WLNK. “People will relate to the music and we’ve put together some of the best talent in the industry. We will be live and local in Charlotte every day!”
RVP/GM Marsha Landess commented, “We asked the Charlotte listeners what they wanted from a radio station and Mix 107.9 is a direct result of what those listeners told us. We’re excited to bring engaging and entertaining on-air talent combined with the best upbeat MIX of music from the ’90s, 2000s and today to the airwaves of Charlotte. Our listeners are going to love listening to the music, our clients are going to love the results it brings to their business. The station will continue to have a large commitment to community service and making a difference in the lives of those living in our community. It truly is the best MIX Charlotte has told us they wanted.”
