WQDR Cuts Deal With Wheeler
After an exhaustive seven-month search, Curtis Media Group Country WQDR/Raleigh has named Mimi Wheeler to the dual role of Promotions Director and Music Director. Fortunately for all involved, Wheeler won’t have to spend a lot of time familiarizing herself with the market, since a) she grew up in the area, and b) she was most recently MD/midday talent across the street at iHeartMedia rival WNCB (B93.9) and MD at WTQR/Greensboro.
Lisa McKay, VP of Programming for Curtis Media Group said, “Mimi has a fire in her belly to be a part of a winning team. She has a love for doing great radio and understands how to treat our listeners like family. Mimi grew up here and knows the local landscape of people and places extremely well. Her label relationships are rock solid too, which makes Mimi a very welcome and valuable team Q member.”
Wheeler commented, “There’s nothing I love more than Country Music and this community, so as you can imagine, I’m thrilled to work with the legendary QDR! I grew up listening to and loving QDR, and it’s an absolute honor to work with such an incredible station and staff. I love being able to call QDR ‘home!'” The WQDR Promotions Director position has been vacant since last August, when 12-year station vet Dede Wakefield was tragically killed in a car accident. The station has also been without a fulltime MD since Cody Clark left in the summer of 2015.
