‘Alice Cooper Court’ Coming Thursday
• After weeks of giddy anticipation, the grand unveiling of “Alice Cooper Court” is happening Thursday, Sept. 23, as “Big Jim” O’Brien, host of the Big Jim’s House morning show on Beasley Classic Rock WCSX/Detroit formally welcomes rock legend Alice Cooper — in person — to the official dedication of “Alice Cooper Court” at 30712 Michigan Avenue in Westland, MI — the site of Eloise Asylum, a former psychiatric hospital that operated from 1839 until it was abandoned in 1982.
“Alice Cooper’s stage show features guillotines, live snakes and a strait jacket,” said Scott Jameson, Beasley VP of National Content and Director of Detroit Programming. “So, it’s only fitting we honor him with a landmark on the grounds of a century-old Detroit area sanitarium. Some things just write themselves.”
The 2pm ceremony will include remarks by Big Jim and Alice, who will attend the gala unveiling two days before his performance at the DTE Energy Center on Saturday, Sept 25. The event will also feature a performance by Alice Cooper cover band, “The Nightmare.” Alice Cooper Court becomes the third rock icon-inspired street rebranding brought to you by Big Jim’s House, following in the footsteps of “Bob Seger Boulevard” in Clarkston, MI and “Glenn Frey Drive” in Royal Oak, MI.
To commemorate the dedication, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland is adding an official “Alice Cooper Court” street sign to its “Legends of Rock” exhibit, which features a new Alice Cooper display opening tomorrow, which also includes’ Alice’s original electric chair stage prop, and tour costumes. “Rock and roll is as much about the spectacle and visual as it is the sonic, and Alice Cooper spawned a new generation of rock and roll with both,” said Nwaka Onwusa, Chief Curator & VP of Curatorial Affairs, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “We are thrilled to add the official street sign to our exhibit as we celebrate Alice Cooper’s legacy with fans and share stories behind the music he created.”
