First Astroworld Lawsuits Already Filed
• Last Friday night’s horrific events have predictably spawned at least two lawsuits that we know of… so far…
Texas attorney Thomas J. Henry filed a sweeping lawsuit Sunday against Travis Scott as well as hip hop star Drake, a.k.a. Aubrey Drake Graham, Live Nation and NRG Stadium in connection with Friday night’s catastrophic event. According to the Daily Mail, the lawsuit was filed on behalf of Kristian Paredes, 23, from Austin, TX. Reports indicate the crowd surged the stage of when Drake made an unannounced appearance. The surge soon resulted in chaos as concert-goers were pushed into one another and the crowd pressed its way forward.
The suit claims Scott and Drake continued to perform even as emergency vehicles arrived and responders attempted to rescue those in distress. Henry said, “There is no excuse for the events that unfolded at NRG stadium on Friday night. There is every indication that the performers, organizers, and venue were not only aware of the hectic crowd but also that injuries and potential deaths may have occurred. Still, they decided to put profits over their attendees and allowed the deadly show to go on.”
Billboard reports another lawsuit filed by an injured concertgoer who called the incident a “predictable and preventable tragedy.” In a petition filed Saturday in Harris County District Court, Astroworld attendee Manuel Souza sued Scott himself, as well as organizer ScoreMore and Live Nation. The lawsuit claims the disaster was the direct result of “a motivation for profit at the expense of concertgoers’ health and safety” and the
“encouragement of violence.”
“Defendants failed to properly plan and conduct the concert in a safe manner,” wrote Souza’s attorney, Steve Kherkher of the firm Kherkher Garcia LLP. “Instead, they consciously ignored the extreme risks of harm to concertgoers, and, in some cases actively encouraged and fomented dangerous behaviors.” As we speak, we imagine other concertgoers are lawyering-up, and we expect to see more lawsuits filed soon.
