Freddy Cruz Writes His Next Chapter

Freddy Cruz, a longtime fixture in the production studios of Cumulus Top 40 KRBE/Houston announced that he’s stepping down from his Creative Services/midday spot after more than two decades (and two tours of duty) with the station and will be leaving on Dec. 31 as he prepares for the release of his new book, They Canceled The DJ.

Commenting on Cruz’s imminent departure, Leslie Whittle, who doubles as PD of KRBE & Cumulus VP of Hot AC, said, “Freddy is a true on-air innovator and is also widely acknowledged as one of the absolute best in the creative services arena. I’ve had the pleasure of working with him for the better part of the last 21 years. While I’ll miss him every day, I’m excited to watch as he writes his next chapter (literally).”

Cruz initially worked at KRBE from 1997 until 2002. After a stint as Imaging Director at iHeartMedia Top 40 KDWB/Minneapolis, Cruz returned to KRBE in 2005, where he has anchored the Creative Services department, hosted middays and the public affairs show, Around H-Town. “When I hear the phrase ‘we stand on the shoulders of giants,’ I think of my career and how so many titanic names played an integral part of it,” Cruz remarked. “For that, I’m forever grateful. It has truly been an honor to work with so many combinations of programming, promotions, engineering and sales staff throughout the past 16 years… 21 if you count my previous stint from 1997-2002.”

So what’s next for Freddy? “More of the same,” he said. “Writing, producing, writing, podcasting… oh, and did I mention… WRITING? I have a network of people who push me to be a better version of myself and because of that, anything is possible and that excites me.” Find out more about Freddy’s new book at TheFreddyCruz.com, and you can easily contact him at 713-858-8150 or ItsFreddyCruz@gmail.com.
