WIXX Celebrates The Big 4-0
Congrats to Midwest Communications’ Top 40 WIXX/Green Bay, WI for reaching an impressive broadcasting milestone — its 40th anniversary. It was February 12, 1977 when WIXX launched its current format as “Wisconsin and Michigan’s Fine Rock Station.” It didn’t take long for WIXX became the most-listened to radio station in Northeast Wisconsin, the Fox Valley and Upper Michigan. Boasting one of the largest FM signals in America, WIXX became known as “The Big One.”
WIXX, which remains LIVE 24/7/365, has been owned by Duke Wright‘s Midwest Communications since 1977, with Duke himself still running the day-to-day operations. “A radio station is merely a studio, some equipment, a transmitter and tower, but when you add people, it becomes a living, breathing thing,” says Jeff McCarthy, VP of Programming for Midwest Communications. “WIXX has been blessed to have awesome radio talents, celebrities and the most loyal and passionate listeners imaginable. It’s been 40 years of success because of the people.”
WIXX has celebrated all this week by highlighting classic jingles and playing back memories submitted by listeners and former jocks. The celebration has been so well received that McCarthy tells RAMP the festivities will continue next week as well!
