WWL/New Orleans Celebrates 100 Years
• Audacy is proud to celebrate 100 years of its heritage New Orleans Talk station WWL (WWL-AM/FM), which launched on March 31, 1922 as Louisiana’s first radio station and the first licensed station in the Gulf Coast.
WWL kicks off its 100th anniversary celebration this week by welcoming a bunch of special guests, including Gayle Benson, President & Chairwoman, New Orleans Saints & New Orleans Pelicans; former Saints quarterbacks Drew Brees and Archie Manning, congressman Steve Scalise; former New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial, now Pres./CEO of the National Urban League; Harry Shearer, actor, comedian and radio host; Senator John Kennedy and more, as well as Audacy Pres., Chairman/CEO David Field.
The station will also begin airing a collection of historical segments that will run throughout the year and hold a VIP anniversary party on March 30. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards, the New Orleans City Council & St. Tammany Parish Pres. Mike Cooper have declared March 31, 2022 as “WWL Day,” which will recognize the station’s place in New Orleans history and the preeminent role it continues to play in the community and the lives of its citizens.
