Schram Retiring From Michigan Radio

• Veteran broadcast executive Steve Schram, Executive Director & General Manager of Michigan Radio, announced his impending retirement from the station, effective November 30. Michigan Radio is the public radio station licensed to the Regents of the University of Michigan and airs news and information 24/7 via five FM signals: 91.7 WUOM/Ann Arbor, 91.1 WFUM/Flint, 91.3 WRSX/Port Huron, 89.7 WLNZ/Lansing and 104.1 WVGR/Grand Rapids.

Schram was personally recruited by University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman in 2006 following stints as SVP/GM for CBS Radio Detroit & GM of WOMC and WYCD. He also served as a Director of Sales for CBS/Infinity Detroit and EVP of Clear Channel’s seven-station Motor City group and GM of WNIC and WKQI (Channel 955).

“I have had the opportunity to be a part of many remarkable organizations throughout my media career,” said Schram, a 2016 inductee into The Michigan Association of Broadcasters Hall Of Fame. “But leading Michigan Radio and working for the University of Michigan has been the privilege of a lifetime. It has been an honor to serve my very talented and dedicated day-to-day broadcasting team while receiving valuable support from our leadership in U of M’s Office of Vice President for Communications (OVPC).”

Kallie Bila Michels, OVPC’s Vice President, commented, “Under Steve’s leadership, Michigan Radio expanded its reach and influence with consistently exceptional journalism on the most important topics of the day. I’m grateful for the commitment of Steve and the stellar team at Michigan Radio.” Schram continued, “Being able to represent Michigan Radio through countless interactions with our loyal listeners and generous donors across the state has been the joy of my career. It is with great pride that I’m retiring from Michigan Radio at a time when the station is considered among the elite public broadcasting outfits in the country while also being equally well-positioned for a promising future as it looks ahead to its 75th anniversary next year.”
