Q101 Smashes Pumpkins A Month Early
• Cumulus Alternative WKQX (Q101)/Chicago will present its weeklong “Smashing Pumpkins Takeover,” which starts tomorrow, Sept. 13 at the stroke of 6am and runs through next Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 5pm. Every half hour every day, Q101 will give away a pair of tickets to a special live Smashing Pumpkins concert event at Chicago’s legendary venue The Metro — the club where it all started for the Pumpkins back in the day.
The promotion will culminate with “Q101 Presents An Evening With The Smashing Pumpkins” on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at The Metro.
Q101 and The Smashing Pumpkins will jointly salute The Metro’s 40th Anniversary of housing live music for Chicago by broadcasting the show live on Q101 starting at 8pm that evening and streaming worldwide at q101.com. The multi-hatted Troy Hanson, PD of Q101, VP of Operations for Cumulus Chicago, and Cumulus VP of Programming, Rock Formats, said, “It’s an honor to bring together three iconic Chicago brands to celebrate a night of ‘All Things Chicago’ — The Smashing Pumpkins, The Metro and Q101!”
Q101 will also be selling commemorative Smashing Pumpkins/The Metro/Q101 t-shirts at The Metro concert event, with all proceeds donated to the Highland Park Community Foundation’s 4th of July Highland Park Shooting Response Fund. This unique promotional event leads right into The Smashing Pumpkins/Jane’s Addiction North American Tour, featuring a tour stop at Chicago’s United Center on Saturday, Nov. 5.
