Happy Danny-versary!
• We would be remiss if we didn’t pause this morning to pay tribute to our friend Danny Lyons, midday fixture on Connoisseur AC WEBE 108/Bridgeport, CT for 35+ years, who today celebrates two incredible milestones — one personal; the other, professional. A) Today his Danny’s birthday, and B) today also marks Danny’s 50th uninterrupted year in radio! He actually started his amazing broadcasting journey on his birthday — Sept. 23, 1972.
As the story goes, Danny left his hometown of Waterbury, CT at the age of 18 and headed south on I-95 toward Florida. His plan was to stop in every market along the east coast until he landed a full-time radio job, and as luck would have it, he was hired at WILZ/West Palm Beach, which was owned at the time by Sam Phillips, the man who first discovered Elvis Presley.
A year later Danny made his triumphant return to Waterbury to work for his hometown station, WWCO and later went on to crack the mic at KC101 & WAVZ/New Haven and WTIC-FM/Hartford. Danny was also a jock at the late, legendary WNNNNN…BC/New York during its Top 40 era in the early ’80s and he also held several management roles over the years including Regional Operations Manager for CT and New York State for WEBE’s previous owner, Cumulus.
A longtime advocate for various charitable causes, Danny has helped raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years and has also served on the board of countless organizations. Let us raise our morning cups of coffee to a true legend marking a historic career milestone! Email your best wishes to Danny.Lyons@connoisseurct.com.
