CMG Atlanta Aims High, Gets Lowe
• Cox Media Group Atlanta shocked pretty much no one with the expected announcement that popular market vet Axel Lowe has emerged from his six-month non-compete cocoon and is now free to navigate, joining CMG Classic Hits WSRV (97.1 The River) as morning host and Asst. Director of Branding & Programming (APD), starting bright and early Thursday morning.
Lowe spent the bulk his 30-year radio career across the street with Cumulus Media’s WNNX (99X), starting as an crewmember of the original iteration of the legendary 99X from its 1992 launch until its demise in 2008. He later did afternoons on sister WNNX (Rock 100.5), working his way up to the PD chair in 2019. He was named PD of the relaunched 99X earlier this year, and tendered his resignation in late March.
“Axel IS Atlanta radio,” said Emily Boldon, Director of Operations for CMG Atlanta. “He is incredibly talented, both as an air personality and radio programmer. We are tremendously excited to have him join The River family.”
Jaleigh Long, VP/Market Manager, CMG Atlanta Radio, commented, “It’s exciting to pair Axel’s expertise with CMG’s commitment to being local. He is an icon in Atlanta with tremendous depth for Classic Hits music, connecting with listeners and making an impact in the community.”
“My first 30 years in Atlanta radio are packed with great memories and lifelong friends and it’s incredible to think that it’s only getting better from here,” said Lowe. “97.1 The River is the #1 station in Atlanta and the CMG team knows how to have fun and WIN!”
