KYW HOF Inducts Adkins & Brooks
• Audacy’s KYW Newsradio/Philadelphia has inducted two longtime staffers members into its Hall of Fame — longtime reporter and anchor Lynne Adkins and anchor Brandon Brooks. Both Adkins and Brooks, who were nominated for induction and elected by the current KYW Newsradio staff, join other distinctive Hall of Famers, including NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell and longtime Suburban Bureau Chief Jay Lloyd.
“This honor is long overdue for these two inductees, who have devoted over three decades of their lives to being reliable news sources for the Philadelphia region,” said David Yadgaroff, SVP/Market Manager, Audacy Philadelphia (pictured here with Adkins and Brooks). “Not only has their professionalism set a high standard for our content, but their extensive backgrounds have taught the next generation of KYW Newsradio broadcasters to aspire to a new level.”
Lynne Adkins spent 34 years as an anchor, reporter and mentor at KYW Newsradio. She developed her radio chops as an Asst. News Director and talk host at WMGK, WPEN, WFIL and WIP/Philadelphia. Adkins also served as News Director for WXTU and WHYY/Philadelphia, WCOJ/Coatesville and WBUX/Levittown, PA. She began her career with a passion for honest storytelling at Temple University over three decades ago.
Brandon Brooks was the voice of news in Philadelphia for more than 30 years. He began his broadcast career in West Chester, PA in 1972. After stops in Myrtle Beach, SC and Wilmington, DE, he anchored afternoon drive at Philadelphia’s WPEN in the ’70s before working as a news writer at WCAU-TV/Philadelphia in the early ’80s. Following a stint as a television anchor in Altoona, PA and Albany, NY, Brooks returned home to Philadelphia and joined KYW Newsradio as a part-time anchor and reporter in 1989 and was upped to fulltime in 1993, primarily anchoring afternoon drive but filling in on weekday and weekend mornings on CBS 3. During his tenure at KYW, Brooks pioneered the classic segment Rewind, which became a daily favorite in Philadelphia and was syndicated by CBS Radio.
