Back To School For Todd Shannon
• Sending our best wishes to veteran programmer Todd Shannon, who has tendered his resignation as OM/PD of Renda AC WEJZ and Country WGNE (99.9 Gator Country)/Jacksonville, as he and his wife Melanie are packing for a big move to Denton, Texas for Shannon’s new position with the University of North Texas (UNT) as Operations Manager/Program Director of non-comm Triple A/Alternative hybrid KNTU (88.1 indie)/McKinney, TX and Jazz-formatted KNTU-HD2 (88.1 The One).
Shannon’s last day at Renda is April 26, and his first day at the new job is May 1, reporting to GM Dan Balla. As Shannon explains to RAMP, “When Dan flipped the format on the main signal to indie in July ’22, engagement with the students increased tenfold. After meeting with the various student employees of the stations, I was so encouraged to see a genuine interest in all facets of radio and look forward to coaching the next generation of broadcasters at UNT.”
Shannon joined Renda in late 2021. Before that he spent a decade across the street with CMG Jacksonville, preceded by a stint with Clear Channel Jacksonville as RVPP and PD of Top 40 WFKS (97.9 Kiss FM). Shannon’s earlier stints with Clear Channel and Jacor include programming stops at WIOQ (Q102)/Philadelphia, KHKS/Dallas, and WNCI/Columbus… oh, and he’s also the guy who launched KHTS (Channel 933)/San Diego on Sept. 1, 1996.
On the move to Texas, Shannon said, “I’ve been home near my family for over 18 years. It’s time to get back to Texas near Mel’s family and our three grandkids. I cannot wait to finally program my favorite format — Triple A/Alt!”
