Match Made In Orlando: Sunny & Steele

• Audacy Classic Hits WOCL (105.9 Sunny FM)/Orlando welcomes James Steele as its new afternoon host. Steele is a familiar presence in the Orlando market, and conveniently already has a key to the building, thanks to his most recent gig as afternoon talent/imaging dude on Alternative sister WQMP (FM 101.9), which recently flipped back to WJHM (102 Jamz).

“James deciding to walk an additional 156 feet down the hallway to dispense his talents on 105.9 Sunny FM will bring brightness back into afternoons,” said Rick Stacy, Brand Manager & morning host on 105.9 Sunny FM. “We’re confident our listeners are just as excited as we are.”

Steele is a Florida native who earlier worked in the building for CBS Radio Orlando as Production Manager for the cluster and Imaging Director/night jock for former Top 40 WJHM (101.9 AMP Radio), prior to its flip to Alternative.

He went on to spend four years as APD/afternoon drive/Imaging guru at Alpha Media Top 40 WXYK (107.1 The Monkey)/Biloxi-Gulfport, MS, and his resume includes a stint as APD/Imaging Director for iHeartMedia’s WNOH (Now 105) and WMOV (MOViN 107.7)/Norfolk, preceded by a seven-year run across the street with Sinclair, where he rose to PD of Alternative WROX (96X). Back in the day he also worked at WGBT (94.5 The Beat)/Greensboro and WBVD/Melbourne, FL.

“I still can’t believe I was asked to join the legendary 105.9 Sunny FM brand,” said Steele. “I’m grateful for [Regional President] Claudia [Menegus] and Rick, who brought me on board, and I look forward to being a part of the most listened-to station in Orlando.”

Steele succeeds market legend Anthony “Domino” Lini, who passed away in March.
