Dave, Ken & Molly: The Sequel
• For all those fans wondering what was next for Spokane radio icons Dave Sposito, Molly Allen and Ken Hopkins, a.k.a. Dave, Molly & Ken — who were surprisingly fired from mornings on Morgan Murphy Top 40 KZZU on June 20 after 30 years — we have an update:
The trio has remained quite active since their surprise exit — Northern Quest Resort & Casino immediately capitalized on the buzz by creating a DKM “unemployed radio personality” campaign. On Tuesday evening, Sept. 17, an official “DKM Announcement Party” took place at the beautiful Fox Theater in downtown Spokane.
The first announcement was from Ken Hopkins (center, bookended by Molly & Dave), who officially announced his retirement after nearly 40 years, remarkably, all spent in Spokane. Part 2 of the announcements was Dave Sposito & Molly Allen officially launching The Dave & Molly Show on Monday, Sept. 23. The Facebook announcement is here.
The online/podcast version of their morning show will be front and center on the Non Stop Local KHQ App and platform. KHQ is the local NBC television affiliate in Spokane. The KHQ announcement is here.
Hopkins joined the former KREM-FM in 1984 and was there for the historic launch of KZZU (93 Zoo FM)that fall. Hopkins was named PD of KZZU in 1989 and served through 2002. After two years on sister station KEZE, Hopkins was named OM of KZZU & KEZE in 2005 as both stations relaunched: KEZE became Wired@969 and KZZU transitioned to its current Hot AC format, Hopkins remained PD of KZZU through his June 20 departure.
Hopkins was most proudly part of the Dave, Ken & Molly show, which began in 1992 with Hopkins and Dave Sposito, who were joined by Molly Allen in 1998… and the rest is history.
Hopkins and is wife Tricia, is thrilled to remain in the city he loves and plans to remain active in all of his favorite causes and events. Both are avid disability advocates, and Hopkins is most excited about being a frequent guest on the brand new Dave & Molly Show! Hopkins can be reached at hopkins.kendall@gmail.com.
