Wanda Smith Enters Nat’l Black Radio HOF
• The National Black Radio Hall of Fame is proud to announce the posthumous induction of Wanda Smith into the esteemed Class of 2025. Smith, who was also a successful stand-up comedian, is best known for her lengthy stretch in mornings on Audacy Urban WVEE (V-103)/Atlanta as co-host alongside Frank Ski, Ryan Cameron, and Frank Ski again until early 2019, died Saturday, Oct. 12 — the day after her 58th birthday.
“Hurricane Dave” Smith, Chairperson for the nominations and induction process and Atlanta Chapter President of the National Black Radio Hall of Fame, commented, “Today, we honor the late Wanda Smith, an extraordinary talent whose voice and laughter left an indelible mark on the world of radio.” He added, “I knew Wanda Smith from my years as Radio One’s Vice President of Programming and Operations. She was a fierce competitor, a true radio warrior, and pioneer.”
Wanda Smith’s induction into the National Black Radio Hall of Fame will be part of the official ceremonies in September 2025 in St. Louis. During this special evening, her family will receive the official induction certificate and a resolution from the St. Louis Board of Aldermen congratulating her on this well-deserved honor.
Wanda Smith’s name and image will be enshrined alongside legendary figures in the world of Black radio, including Tom Joyner, Bernie Hayes, Roland Martin, Donnie McClurkin, Frank Ski, Big Tigger, and other trailblazers who have made significant contributions to the industry’s culture and spirit.
