Elvis Duran On CBS Sunday Morning
• In case you missed it… or, like us, want to watch it again… This past Sunday, Premiere Networks nationally syndicated personality Elvis Duran, host of Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, was featured in a lengthy piece on CBS Sunday Morning.
Mo Rocca‘s in-depth story brought viewers in-studio at Duran’s radio flagship for the past three decades, Z100/New York, his home in Santa Fe, and behind the scenes at Z100’s Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden. Duran discussed a variety of topics, including the magic of radio and how his personality has won him loyal fans, including some of the biggest names in pop music. Duran also revealed how his love for radio began when he was a young child, and shared that the special connection with on-air personalities is what originally drew him to the platform and that unique friendship continues to inspire him every day. “I’ve been working with some of the same people for 25-30 years,” Duran told Rocca. “The energy with each other is what makes it work. I don’t need to be the center of attention.”
Duran commented, “Radio isn’t what radio used to be. A lot of radio companies gave up on personalities; they just wanted to play music, it’s cheaper. That’s not good for our business. So, I’ve done everything I can to keep personality on a radio show in the mornings.” Duran added, “We are in the friendship business… I think about you (the listener) when you hop in your car in the morning. You’re either leaving a house that may be full of turmoil or going to a job with a boss you don’t like, but I have you for 20, 30 minutes, and I can be your friend.”
When asked about his legacy, Duran said, “I don’t want them to remember my name, I just want them to remember how we made them feel every day. That’s it.”
