Marty Whitney: Impending Free Agent
• We are fast approaching the end of the second “Marty Whitney Era” at Local Media San Diego (LMSD) Alternative XTRA-FM (91X)/San Diego, as morning host Marty Whitney announced he’s exiting the station after his show this Friday, Jan. 31.
As Whitney explained to RAMP, “LMSD sold [Adult Hits KFBG] 100.9 BIG FM [to Lotus Communications], which landed me outside of their new staff mix. I’m READY to serve a music-loving community and entertain an audience for a great media force who want great ratings on-air, a previous ALT station of the year PD, multi-format Music Director, major market imaging talent with sigma dadventure IG stories NOW.”
Whitney’s first tour of duty at 91X was from 2003-2006 under the ownership of Clear Channel, where he served as MD and night jock. He went on to do mornings on Shamrock Alternative KRZQ/Reno until March 2014 before returning to San Diego to do nights on Clear Channel’s KIOZ (Rock 105.3) while adding middays at sister KYSR (ALT 98.7)/Los Angeles. After a stint as a Special Programming Producer for Apple Music’s Beats 1, Whitney made his triumphant return to 91X in October 2019 as morning co-host alongside Danielle Stuht.
Whitney added, “The last 91X show for now in my second tour of the station is this Friday, Jan. 31 from 5:30-10am. I am forever grateful to be a tiny story in the long rebel history on 91X. Please, do continue to support, listen to the legendary 91X as Garett, Hilary, Danielle and Halloran continue the fight in San Diego!”
