Harlan Named ’25 Behind The Mic Mentee

Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio, Inc. (MIW) announced Emily Harlan as the 2025 Behind the Mic mentee.

Harlan is the afternoon drive talent on Connoisseur Media’s Bay Country simulcast (94.5 KBAY/San Jose & 92.1 KKDV/Walnut Creek, CA) and weekend host on Country sister KUPL (98.7 The Bull)/Portland, OR. She’s also the host and director of She’s Country, a weekly, hour-long show that highlights and celebrates women in Country music. And there’s more — Harlan is also an experienced sports reporter and is entering her fifth season as the digital and in-arena host for the NHL’s San Jose Sharks.

The Behind the Mic Mentorship is a year-long program for U.S.-based women on-air personalities (any music format) with approximately 3-5+ years of experience and who are actively focused on growing their on-air careers.

The mentee receives one-on-one mentorship from senior industry leaders spanning programming, talent development, audience growth, and brand strategy, and will attend the 2026 NAB Show in Las Vegas.

“Emily is exactly the kind of on-air talent this mentorship was built to support — curious, audience-focused, and committed to growing her voice,” said Sheila Kirby, MIW Board President. “From her daily drive show to She’s Country, and her work with the San Jose Sharks, Emily brings range, professionalism, and purpose to every platform. We’re thrilled to help accelerate her next chapter.”

“This is incredible news, and I’m so grateful to MIW for the opportunity,” Harlan remarked. “I know how many talented women are in our field, so it’s an honor to be chosen. I’m excited to learn, grow, and make MIW — and our industry — proud.”
