Radio Minus Steve Kingston?

• For those of us who came of age during the legendary Steve Kingston/Scott Shannon radio era, here’s a cold dose of reality — Kingston has left the industry. As Kingston informs RAMP, “I sold my equity in WRNR-FM to my business partner Kirk Litton, and am officially out of the radio broadcast business!” Litton’s partner in this sale is veteran programmer and consultant Jay Stevens.

While you ponder that unfathomable thought, may we direct your attention to this heartwarming reunion photo of Kingston, his wife Patty Steele, and Scott and Trish Shannon taken this week during a lovely dinner at Harvest On Hudson.

As RAMP first reported in July 2024, Kingston and Patty had announced their intention to open a family-run cannabis dispensary in beautiful downtown Montclair, NJ. The name of the business, a clever play on the family’s given name, Kushner, was just too good to pass up: “The Kush Connection.”

Kingston notes, “We plan to open in January and be the Hard Rock Cafe of dispensaries. With WRNR-FM in good hands, I can now focus on this new adventure and business opportunity, bringing with me my friends and relationships I’ve built over the years to build this new exciting business concept.”
