Camp Out For Hunger Fully Satisfies

From 6am Monday, Nov. 10 through 11am Friday, Nov. 14, morning hosts Preston Elliot and Steve Morrisoncamped out and broadcast live outside Xfinity Mobile Arena in South Philly, rallying listeners and businesses from across the tri-state area to donate food and funds. Dozens of local and national celebrities, performers, and athletes also stopped by to lend their support. Live music from rotating house bands filled the broadcast tent each morning, creating a festive, community-driven atmosphere for donors and guests.
The totals included $350,000 donated by ACME shoppers, while long-time donor Comcast made this year’s largest donation from a business for the first time — generating 492,256 pounds of food — earning the company a live Preston & Steve broadcast from their company HQ.
This year’s event also carried a powerful and bittersweet new layer of meaning following the recent passing of iconic WMMR DJ Pierre Robert, as scores of listeners, clients, and guests paid tribute throughout the week by making donations in Pierre’s honor. A passionate advocate for Camp Out for Hunger, Pierre embodied the belief that one person can profoundly impact another through the simple act of giving.
“In the shadow of the unimaginable loss of our beloved Pierre Robert, The Preston & Steve Show, WMMR, all of our listeners, partners, clients and friends did something extraordinary,” said WMMR Program Director Chuck Damico. “This year’s Camp Out for Hunger will go down as one of the most difficult things we all ever had to do, but also somehow one of the most magical. We are so grateful to absolutely every single person that anything at all to do it. It doesn’t just take a village — it takes a whole city!”
