Labor Day Flips — The Sequel
• Alpha Media has gifted the Myrtle Beach, SC market with its very own Classic Hip Hop station with the launch of G105.5, “Myrtle Beach’s The Throwback Station.” The new G105.5 resides on WRNN-AM 1450/105.5 and replaces ESPN programming.
Zack Williams, PD of Top 40 sister WMYB (Energy 92.1) commented, “We’re crazy excited to bring throwbacks to Myrtle Beach. You can take your radio to the beach, cruise up and down Ocean Blvd. and have a great time listening to the best throwback Hip Hop and R&B!” He then handed the mic to his colleague Crash, PD of Alternative WKZQ, who added, “While I’ve been programming the Alternative station here, I grew up listening to this music and DJ-ing in nightclubs and bars all throughout my life. This station is going to be a great addition to Myrtle Beach and the Alpha Media family. To quote Dre, ‘It ain’t nuthin’ but a G thang, baby.'”
• On Friday, Sept. 1, Alpha Media also got busy in Dayton, OH, flipping AC WGTZ (Soft Rock 92.9) to Adult Hits as 92.9 Jack FM. Interestingly, the move marks a return to Adult Hits for WGTZ, which was Adult Hits Fly 92-9 from Nov. 2, 2007 until February 27, 2015, when it became Soft Rock 92.9.
Alpha Media VP of Programming, Ronnie Stanton commented, “What a fun day for Dayton! Turning on a new Jack is always a happy day and we have high hopes for this one. A great new radio station in one of America’s great cities.”
• Also on Friday September 1, Curtis Media launched the new WSJS Sports, a full-market Sports-Talk outlet serving the Greensboro-High-Point-Winston-Salem.
