Karpowicz Earns Golden Mike
The Broadcasters Foundation of America announced that Paul Karpowicz, President of Meredith Corporation’s Local Media Group, will receive the 2017 Golden Mike Award on Monday, February 27, 2017, at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. The annual black-tie gala is a major fundraiser for the charity’s ongoing mission of providing aid to broadcasters in need. In making the announcement, Dan Mason, Chairman of the Broadcasters Foundation said, “Paul is an industry leader who has given back to the broadcast community through his dedication and service. A tireless champion of the Broadcasters Foundation of America, Paul’s contributions have advanced our goal of providing important aid to our colleagues. We are proud to recognize him.”
Meredith’s Local Media Group has been under Karpowicz’s leadership since 2005, significantly increasing its television footprint to 17 owned or operated television stations reaching more than 11 percent of U.S. households. Prior to Meredith, Karpowicz spent more than 20 years at LIN Media. An inductee of the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame, Karpowicz also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of BMI and as a board member of the Broadcasters Foundation of America and the Television Board of the NAB, for which he is also a former Chairman.
“I’m grateful to the Broadcasters Foundation for this honor, and I thank the Board for their deep commitment to colleagues in need,” said Karpowicz. “The pleas for aid come in every day. It is with the generous support of broadcasters across the country that we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those who find themselves in devastating circumstances.” Each year, the Golden Mike Award dinner attracts a who’s-who of broadcast execs and celebrities. The presenters and performers to honor Karpowicz will be announced at a later date. To reserve a seat or a table, please contact the Broadcasters Foundation at 212-373-8250, or email info@thebfoa.org.
