Sports Fanatic Cooney Joins WPEN/Philly
Longtime Philadelphia Daily News sports columnist Bob Cooney has been hired by Beasley Sports-Talk WPEN (97.5 The Fanatic)/Philadelphia as the new co-host of the Fanatic Morning Show, plugging in across from Anthony Gargano. The move makes sense, as Cooney had been filling in on The Fanatic for the past several months.
Cooney has been with the Daily News for the past 25 years and currently is the paper’s beat writer for the Philadelphia 76ers. He was named “Pennsylvania Sports Writer of the Year” in 2016. “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Bob as the new co-host of the Fanatic Morning Show,” said Philly VP/Market Manager Joe Bell. “He’s no stranger to Philly sports. His reputation is incredible. Bob and Anthony are the perfect team to serve as the official voice of the Philly sports fan!”
Cooney said, “I’m really looking forward to joining the 97.5 The Fanatic Morning Show with Anthony Gargano and talking with the great fans of Philadelphia every day. The knowledge and opinions of the fans in this area are rivaled by no other fan base in the country.” Cooney will also be heavily involved in The Fanatic’s expanded Sixers coverage.
