Decade Of Excellence For 88Nine
Award-winning non-comm WYMS (88Nine Radio)/Milwaukee held its 10th Birthday event on Sunday, Feb. 26 to celebrate the station’s launch on Feb. 26, 2007. During an on-air celebration held with Radio Milwaukee members at its studios, the station announced several upcoming activities to commemorate its 10th birthday: 1) an all-day free street concert on June 24, with a mix of national and local acts TBA; 2) An April 14 (“414 Day”) a new feature to connect Milwaukee music to listeners everywhere; 3) a new monthly narrative audio and video series, In The Wings: Bringing Our Community to Center Stage, starting March 1, spotlighting the city’s rich food culture. 4) 88Nine Radio will hold a benefit gala dinner on June 22 to honor station donors and founders, including co-founder, philanthropist and musician Peter Buffett.
88Nine Radio is also launching new shows: 88Nine After Nine, hosted by Tarik Moody combines contemporary Urban and Triple A music and runs from 9pm to midnight Monday through Thursday, and Listener Approved, a weekly feature hosted by MD Justin Barney, starts March 5 and will feature a Top 10 countdown of the station’s best songs as selected by listeners.
During the birthday celebration, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (right, with PD Jordan Lee) unveiled an official proclamation declaring Sunday, Feb. 26 as “88Nine Radio Milwaukee Day.” The document commended the station for “10 years of dedicated service and leadership, recognizes its outstanding contributions to the community and wishes it many more years of success.”
