Jerry Lee To Be Honored
Jerry Lee, Chairman of WBEB (101.1 More FM)/Philadelphia will receive the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters’ highest award, The Gold Medal. Lee will receive his award during a dinner held in is honor on May 7 at the Hotel Hershey. The PAB’s Gold Medal reflects the dramatic history and rich heritage of broadcast communications, much of which is rooted in the history of Pennsylvania. This award has been presented in the past to such Pennsylvania icons as Jimmy Stewart, Dick Clark, Johnny Unitas, Shirley Jones, James Michener, Arnold Palmer, Walter Annenberg, Arlen Specter and Mike Ditka.
Jerry Lee is responsible for creating the first major success in FM radio — after graduating from Youngtown State University in 1960 he became interested in the future of the radio industry. In 1963, he moved to Philadelphia and formed a partnership with the late Dave Kurtz, and launched WDVR, now WBEB. “We are honored to recognize Jerry for his tireless service and dedication to his community and the broadcast industry,” stated Joe Conti, PAB President. “Jerry’s passion and devotion to such causes as education and crime prevention have set a benchmark for others to follow and his efforts have touched countless lives. We are proud to bestow this honor on Jerry.”
