March 25 Declared ‘Michael Stanley Day’
• The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is honoring Michael Stanley, longtime Cleveland rock star, radio and TV personality on Thursday, March 25, on what would have been his 73rd birthday. Stanley, who famously did afternoons for 30 years on Entercom Classic Rock 98.5 WNCX/Cleveland, died Friday, March 5 after a battle with lung cancer.
As part of Thursday’s citywide celebration, set by the Cleveland City Council, fans are invited to join Stanley’s family and members of his band The Resonators with remarks by Cleveland City Council President Kevin Kelley in declaring Thursday, March 25, 2021 as “Michael Stanley Day.” Rock & Roll Hall of Fame CEO Greg Harris will also present Stanley’s family with a Proclamation by Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson. The celebration kicks off at 10:15am on the Rock Hall plaza. “The energy of Michael’s music and its ability to bring people together helped to make Cleveland the Rock & Roll Capital of the World, and it galvanized the community to rally together and make our city the home of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” said Harris. “His contributions to rock & roll and our region will not be forgotten, and we are honored to preserve his legacy and tell his story forever at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.”
In a show of solidarity, radio stations throughout Northeast Ohio are joining forces to celebrate Stanley’s legacy by playing his hit, “My Town” in unison at 10:35am.
